30 Jun 16
10:30 AM - 11:45 AM

Tracks: Speaker

Speaker(s): Abel Silvas
Abel Silvas will speak about life in California during different historical eras: from 12,000 years before contact to the Europeans’ arrival and Father Junipero Serra’s Spanish Missions, followed by emancipation of the Mission Indians and their Land Grants during the Mexican Californio Rancho period, and finally, to the Gold Rush and their militias during the early American and Reservation periods. Mr. Silvas concludes that his people are still here and still fishing for grunion.
