Drag queens and LGBT folks everywhere get dressed up to entertain, to play, and to enjoy being who they are in the community. But some of us crazy queers get dressed up for a purpose. The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence were such a group, dressing in their crazy, funky way to catch people’s attention to make a difference in the world. They shock to make a point, make people uncomfortable to educate, strut their stuff to show others that it is OK to be who they are, and use their visibility and influence in the community to raise awareness for different causes, critical problems, and fundraising efforts. We also serve a quasi-spiritual function in the community, acting as counselors, confidants, and reminders that there is something more out there, however it is defined. Our mission: to promulgate universal joy and expiate stigmatic guilt. Think of activessle drag as the meeting place of flamboyance, community service and glitter. Come join the San Diego Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on a panel where we talk about what it means to each of us to be a Sister, and learn how to make a difference in the world by having fun and discovering yourself.
