INTEX Expo 17

Land Mines and Gold Mines in Specifications, Codes and Engineering Requirements (Room South Pacific D)

Every three years, new versions of the building codes are introduced. While some states adopt new codes immediately, others wait, review and often add their own requirements and deletions. Local municipalities will sometimes pile on even more addenda, making a code-compliant assembly in one jurisdiction not meet code in another. Keep your company ahead of the engineering and code “learning curve” by making sure you and your staff are up to speed on the latest requirements. Hear case studies about how some contractors have proactively worked with their code enforcement agencies for less painful inspections, and how others have used innovative techniques to get non-traditional materials and methods approved. Attendees will learn why some specification statements are “land mines” and others are “gold mines,” and they will understand the difference between performance specifications and prescriptive specifications and how to use both to their advantage.
