Don't Let Your Wall Designs Go Up in Smoke! A Look at CFS Framed Wall Limiting Heights While Integrating Fire-Resistant Performance Requirements (Room South Pacific D)

One of the fundamental attributes of a cold-formed steel framed gypsum board partition is its inherent fire-resistive properties. Another attribute is the ability to maintain a project’s critical wall thickness requirement by altering steel stud thickness and spacing. The common tool to accomplish this task is the published limiting height table. However, like many a design process, there is a balance between structural capacity and fire resistance. This session will explore the structural principles that are used to develop limiting height tables and define key terms that are often used. Next, we will look at what is required to maintain fire resistance with an emphasis on conflicts.
