Tracks: Electrical Systems Maintenance

This paper will review challenges associated with motor room ventilation and cooling on various projects. The layout and configuration of a motor room present unique challenges to remove heat and provide a relatively robust, contamination-free environment for electric motors and equipment. The upgrade of motor room ventilation requires assessment of actual operating and maintenance conditions of large mill motors, history, identification of critical areas, ascertaining of the status and limits of existing ventilation equipment, and utilizing various diagnostic tools for developing innovative and cost-effective ventilation and cooling engineering solutions.
