Tracks: Blast Furnace Stove Refractories & Operations I

A combined thermal assessment approach using non-destructive testing (AU-E) data and thermocouple data was used to predict the refractory conditions in a blast furnace hearth. A transient thermal analysis showed that the system takes time to respond to changes, so careful selection of thermocouple locations is important. Further wear in the center of the furnace was identified using thermocouple data, as this area was not accessible for AU-E measurement. High-wear trends were identified using thermocouple data alone, and were later compared with AU-E measurement. This assessment was used to develop plans for campaign life extension.
