SDI Butler retrofitted six ISIS carbon feeders with the Schenck Process RotoFeed® system in 2015. Existing injection lines and vessels were kept in place, which reduced installation to several hours. The new feeders gave furnace operators finite control over the three carbon injection points. Previous weight measurement was based on load cells; the rotary style feeders have improved the accuracy of reporting carbon usage per heat. As such, injection carbon consumption has decreased by 20% from previous style feeder system. Reduced maintenance during winter has proven favorable with the retrofitted injectors.
