Use of DRI in Steelmaking
Nucor Steel–Arkansas (NSA) is always looking for opportunities to improve efficiency and cost at the EAFs. In 2015, when the market slowed down, NSA re-evaluated some of its melting practices, including slag practices, voltage vs. kA, DRI feeding and carbon usage. NSA already had incorporated some newer systems, like the RotoFeed® system and the ZoloSCAN offgas anaylsis system. The focus was on maximizing their potential. Results indicate an improvement in power, carbon and electrode consumption.
