Tracks: Energy

The steel industry and the energy sector have shared a vital partnership since the Industrial Revolution. The steel industry supplies essential products like OCTG and line pipe for oil and gas production, transportation, as well as electric steels for generation, transmission and distribution. On the other hand, steel mills depend on these suppliers for their vast energy consumption, none more than the electric arc furnaces, which are massive electricity consumers. From the utilities’ perspective, EAFs, being the top consumers of energy and demand, play a significant role in their day-to-day operations. This paper provides a brief overview of the benefits of such a relationship pertaining to energy efficiency, cost reduction, reliability and operation between SDI Columbus and the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
