In addition to modern equipment and sophisticated process automation systems, effective steel production requires a production management system that supports and conforms to efficient and customer-approved business processes. Implementation time has direct influence on the return of investment of such a system.
Product-driven project methodology, a project execution approach developed by PSI, resulted in the successful implementation of a production management system for a plate mill within six months. This paper describes the key success factors, lessons learned and the benefits for the customer. It also provides a guideline for future projects in the field of metals production.
