NASS 2017 Annual Meeting

Symposium: Exercise Committee: Exercise Management Controversy of Neck Pain Without Radiculopathy (Room WF1)

Moderator: Ryan Tauzell, PT, MA, Cert. MDT

Neck pain without radiculopathy can be challenging to treat. A clinical decision-making controversy regarding the type of exercise for this problem adds to treatment challenges. On one side, a specific exercise treatment is most effective and must begin with a reliable assessment method. On the opposite side, exercise without specificity is the recommendation for this patient population. Determination of the most efficacious approach for this type of patient is applicable to any clinician’s practice. This symposium will weigh the options.

Upon completion of this symposium, participants should gain strategies to:

  • Determine the exercise approach that is the most appropriate for this patient population;
  • Recognize the current literature recommendations;
  • Acquire rationale for different types of exercise use;
  • Identify clinical relevance of each treatment approach.
