Overturned Gasoline Tanker: Command, Control and Lessons Learned (Room 4C)

It is rush hour and you have just received a call for an overturned gasoline tanker blocking all lanes of the interstate. What’s your plan and priorities, and who will be impacted? These questions will be answered in this case study involving a ruptured gasoline tanker with a trapped and injured occupant. Items discussed will include: unified command; traffic incident management principles; interagency cooperation; patient care and extrication in the hazardous materials environment; operations level HazMat strategies and tactics; environmental challenges and concerns; and media relations. Occurring in Chesterfield County (VA), and presented by the incident commander, the presentation will include audio recordings, photos and diagrams. While didactic in nature, the program will be interactive and student participation will be encouraged to further the learning objectives.
