Tracks: Novel Sensor Applications

The automotive world is quickly moving toward autonomous driving. Paving the way towards this evolution are advanced driver assistance systems. These systems must be enable vehicles to detect whether or not a driver’s hands are on the steering wheel, regardless of environmental influences like temperature or humidity. In this session, attendees will learn how hands-on detection with CAPSIC sensing overcomes the issues resistive pressure measurement technologies incorporate, and how CAPSIC detects the driver’s hand independent from the force he or she is applying to the steering wheel. ATTENDEE BENEFITS & TAKEAWAYS: - Hands on detection with CAPSIC Sensing overcomes the issues resistive pressure measurement technologies incorporate - Immune to environmental changes: Wet hands or wearing gloves while driving do not make a difference, since CAPSIC is able to detect humidity as well. - Integration with existing applications - Robust to EMI and high EMC: CAPSIC measures on a single frequency, which can be even adapted to disturbers (hopping)
