Sensors Expo 2016

Participatory Sensing of Roadway Condition and Safety Using Connected Vehicles (Room Meeting Room 211AB)

22 Jun 16
2:40 PM - 3:20 PM

Tracks: Novel Sensor Applications

This session will report on the development and application of a new sensor fusion technique that enables a connected vehicle approach to the autonomous monitoring of roadway performance and safety. Bridgelall will describe the time-wavelength-intensity transform (TWIT), which is analogous to a broadband spectrum analyzer for roads. ATTENDEE BENEFITS & TAKEAWAYS: - Understand the interdependencies of how the capacity of a nation to preserve and sustain the performance and safety of its roadways affects economic growth and commerce - Find out why the existing methods of roadway condition monitoring using lasers and optics cannot provide the timely identification of unsafe conditions, and cannot scale to cover the entire network - Discover the emergence of connected vehicles, and learn about new standards for their deployment that will transform the behavior of transportation systems in the next several years - Learn how transportation agencies will apply the TWIT to big data from connected vehicles to achieve continuous and network wide performance and safety monitoring
