The European Space Agency is planning a “Lunar Village.” Google LunarX Prize contestants are racing to be the first private companies to land on the Moon. Elon Musk announced plans to settle Mars. Regardless of which visions pan out, long-terms operations on the Moon and Mars will demand that space pioneers learn to ‘live off the land’ by using indigenous raw materials for on-site building and operations.
