Over the past 20 years, biometrics have matured rapidly and experienced widespread adoption.  Today, biometrics are used in a wide range of applications and systems from the contemporary mobile authentication of financial transactions and verification of digital identities for government benefit recipients to more traditional law enforcement and counter terrorism efforts.  These biometric applications and systems all share common fundamental technologies.  This discussion will provide a a high-level overview of those fundamental biometrics and related technologies that underpin modern identity applications and systems.  We will explore current and emerging modalities to include fingerprint, palm, face, iris, voice, and DNA.  We will also discuss how influential technology trends outside of biometrics, such as mobility, cloud, cyber, and big data analytics, are shaping the future of biometrics.
