How to Develop a Culture of Reliability: Preventing Catastrophic and Serious Injury (Room 124)

26 Sep 17
1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Tracks: Mgmt. Ldrship., Empl. Engmt. & Cltr.

Following a catastrophic event, it’s common to hear leaders say, “I don’t understand. We have a great safety record and our recordable injury rates are among the lowest.” This session will deepen leaders’ understanding of how catastrophic events occur and what can be done to improve an organization’s ability to prevent them. We’ll look at new findings on a multiplicity of causes for serious and fatal injury events and how they differ from those of minor injuries. We’ll also examine the underlying cultural factors that allow catastrophic events to occur seemingly out of the blue and how leaders can create a “culture of reliability” that prevents them from happening.
