More than 2 million workers report having been victims of workplace violence. This issue is particularly acute in government and public-sector settings. In fact, from 2002 to 2011, the annual average rate of simple assault in the workplace against government employees (18.9 per 1,000) was more than three times that of private-sector employees (4.6 per 1,000). This presentation will cover the various types of workplace violence, the connection to bullying and harassment in the workplace, and early signs. We’ll discuss prevention strategies for government and public-sector safety professionals, managers and supervisors, who are critical in maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.
