Patient use of medical retail “clinics” increased from 4% in 2007 to 17% in 2013. This growing trend is impacting private medical practices and there is no reprieve in sight. From Costco, CVS, Walgreens and Walmart – there continues to be a surge in medical retail locations across the country. How do independent medical practices compete in an environment where medical retail expansion looms as a primary disrupter in healthcare? Private practices have the advantage of being flexible and able to change more easily than large multispecialty groups and hospitals. They can also provide a level of individualized and personal care that the local retail clinic cannot. This session will outline the current trend in flagship retailers that are expanding their healthcare reach, the consumer connection driving the market response and a game plan to get the upper hand over the competition.
