Insurance companies have access to large amounts of claims data that they can use to evaluate physician performance and compare the cost of care from one physician to another. The payers are beginning to use this information in a variety of ways, most of which can be very damaging to the physician. In this session, the Mr. Howrigon will explain how physician profiling works, provide an overview of the problems and shortfalls, list the various ways in which payers can use this data, and suggest strategies that physicians can utilize to combat this situation.
