Dr. Campbell will review new pharmaceutical agents in clinical trials to prevent and/or treat drug and noise-induced hearing loss. Although no drug is yet FDA approved for this purpose, several agents are currently in clinical trials and some, as those developed by Dr. Campbell, are in late stage clinical trials to prevent hearing loss secondary to noise exposure, cisplatin chemotherapy induced hearing loss, and aminoglycoside antibiotic induced hearing loss. Disclosure: Dr. Campbell is the inventor on the patents for D-methionine as a protective agent but her patents are owned by her employer, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
