Mass Spectrometry as an Immunoassay Complement: Best of Both Worlds-72420 (Room Georgia World Congress Center - B305)

27 Jul 15
12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

Tracks: Immunoassay, Mass Spectrometry, Testing Methods

After attending this session, participants will be able to: 1) discuss challenges and workflow differences in mid-size and larger community hospitals versus reference laboratories and opportunities and feasibility in adoption of more sophisticated methodologies such as mass spectrometry; 2) describe mass spectrometric immunoassay techniques and their application in small molecule and peptide quantitation; 3) provide tools to guide laboratory consultation to clinicians regarding management of patients whose clinical course may be complicated by non-specific interferences or unacceptable analyte cross-reactivities in immunoassays used for monitoring; and 4) discuss the role of mass spectrometry in mid-size and/or community hospitals as a complement to traditional immunoassays.
