After attending this session participants will be able to: 1) explain the implication of reducing PCR time from the current 10-30 min to 15-60 sec on the decentralization of molecular diagnostics testing; 2) describe some of the technologies behind the “tricorder” concept and how such a device is moving from the realm of fiction to reality; and 3) explain how ambient ionization has the potential to miniaturize mass spectrometry, thus enabling its use closer to the patient.
