Industry Theater: CDC Recommendations on Syphilis and HCV Testing (Room Exhibit Hall - Theater 1)

Experts from the CDC will discuss the upward trend in cases of both Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) and Syphilis in the United States. Hepatitis C is especially challenging as the majority of infections are thought to be undiagnosed. New testing guidelines from the CDC are designed to improve detection of HCV infection and target patients for treatment. Syphilis infections continue to rise in many regions increasing the risk of both disease progression and vertical transmission in pregnant women. The advantages and limitation of both the traditional and reverse screening algorithms will be reviewed.
