This paper describes a new method of cored wire technology for calcium treatment during secondary metallurgy. Beginning with a chemical and physical comparison of calcium bearing products, the complete development process for a new product containing calcium carbide is given. Operational results from industrial trials are used to illustrate the performance. The impact of the treatment on the steel analysis and the inclusion modification already indicates the benefits, which are then proven by the performance during continuous casting. Stable stopper position, less mold level fluctuation and improved surface quality were the points for the successful implementation in standard production.
