Tracks: Measurement Applications & Techniques, New Developments & Detailed Microstructural Characterization of AHSS

Considerable energy (sensible and chemical) is contained in the off gas from an electric arc furnace, and recovery of a significant amount of that energy would provide economic benefits. Preliminary designs have been developed for two heat recovery systems; one a regenerator that utilizes refractory materials and one a fluidized bed system that incorporates metallic tubes. In order to identify materials for these heat recovery systems, knowledge of off gas temperatures is essential. Toward that end, temperatures have been measured at selected locations in the off gas stream. Methods used to make these measurements and results obtained will be presented.
