Quality and equipment reliability are continual expectations in hot strip mill operations. One component in surface cleanliness is having effective descaling. Not only are proper nozzle maintenance and inspection important in descaling systems, header reliability is also very critical. Reliable descale headers are essential to providing a quality product with a safe work environment. Lack of attention to the descale header systems can result in safety and quality issues for hot strip mills. This presentation will discuss the best practices for preventive maintenance for descale headers as a safety, reliability and cost savings advantage that can be utilized within a maintenance program. Furthermore, the presentation will cover nozzle wear testing and nozzle assembly failures that can cause poor descaling performance.
