Tracks: Inclusions — Modeling Studies

The project investigates the kinetics of inclusion modification at silicon-manganese killed steels and the effect of slag and steel chemistry on the possible inclusion composition and morphology changes. These changes were assessed experimentally using an induction furnace to simulate deoxidation and steel-slag reactions present in industry-scale reactors. Inclusion analysis was done by automated feature analysis and energy-dispersive X-rays. Besides the comparison between expected and obtained inclusion compositions, further discussion is done regarding radial inclusion size and composition inhomogeneity in sample, its causes and correct quantification of manganese in inclusions.
