Learn the Regulatory Playbook on Cosmetic Claims (Room Baltimore Convention Center, Room 338)

17 Sep 15
1:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Do you have the same playbook as the FDA or FTC?  Companies think they have done everything by the book, but then receive a warning letter from the FDA and/or FTC.  This seminar will give insight on how to make sure that you have labeled and marketed your cosmetic properly.  Learn from the FDA how they define a cosmetic and if the product is also considered a drug and what regulations you need to abide by.  Find out what makes a product misbranded and/or adulterated and what you need to know before importing/exporting products.  FDA’s Dr. Wendy Good from the Office of Cosmetic and Colors at the Food and Drug Administration and will give you FDA’s insight on what they look for.

Social media is the cost efficient way for a company to get their message out about their product.  Did you know that if somebody comments on the tweet or post and makes a claim that it holds the company responsible?! NPA has invited FTC to discuss what to avoid not only in social media, but also marketing and advertising.

Lawsuits will make any company cringe.  Kevin Bell, principal at Porzio, Bromberg, & Newman will give insight as to what is going on at the federal level regarding recent warning letters involving cosmetics and discuss what claims could trigger the plaintiff’s bar.  Don’t get caught in a lawsuit, learn from other cases and current litigation so you can avoid making the same mistake.

Areas of discussion will include:

  • Is the product a Cosmetic or Drug
  • Cosmetic Labeling Requirements
  • What you need to know before Importing and Exporting Products
  • How to avoid Misbranding and/or Adulterating  your product
  • What you can’t say in your marketing (social media, internet, marketing materials, tv, radio)

This course is relevant and valuable for anyone whose job requires an understanding of how personal care products are regulated and can be marketed in the United States, including company owners, senior management, regulatory affairs, advertising and marketing, and QA/QC personnel.
