MEMS have become ubiquitous in our world and are powering the IoT (Internet of Things). There is more to come as system integrators choose MEMS based solutions and additional designers scale down existing devices to the MEMS scale for performance and cost reasons. A challenge for these designers is understanding the issues unique to MEMS design and fabrication. This talk covers design issues at the micro scale with contrast to macro scale sensor designs, highlighting important best practices. The talk also discusses differences between macro-scale manufacturing methods and MEMS fabrication technologies.  Finally, it presents an overview of modeling and analysis techniques to enable successful designs.
