IEC 61131-9 (IO-Link) is a new global open communication standard to link sensors to the controlling network bus via a corresponding interface including a bidirectional data link. This new system - independent and manufacturer independent communication standard is a new important brick and milestone to the “Industry 4.0.” The session shows the challenges which leads to IO-Link, a technical description, advantages for the IOT/Industry 4.0 and first ASSP-Solutions which implements IO-Link. The session also gives a short but generally understandable introduction into the new Industry-Standard IO-Link and shows the not to be underestimated importance for the future Internet of Things.
