The Food Modernization and Safety Act requires comprehensive controls across the food supply chain, with an emphasis on prevention. Sanitation and pest control are not exempt. As a consequence, grain and feed facilities are being required to evaluate their sanitation and pest hazards, and then develop plans and strategies that preclude and respond to contamination. This session will investigate how sanitation and pest control are regarded under FSMA, and discuss the usefulness of strategies such as Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), Hazard Analysis and Risk Based Preventive Controls (HARBC), and Good Manufacturing Process (GMP).
