Co-Firing Testing Experience for Coal and Solid Recovered Fuel (Room G109, Auditorium Centre, First Floor)

Ansaldo Caldaie, in the frame of product development activities with its customer Edipower - A2A, a major Italian Utility, is carrying out engineering studies and full scale testing activities at its Combustion Centre in order to assess the combustion behaviour of a typology of Solid Recovered Fuel ( Secondary Solid Fuel – CSS according to the Italian standard definition) produced by A2A. This Solid Recovered Fuel is fired, through dedicated burner solutions designed by Ansaldo Caldaie, according to various co-firing configurations with bituminous coal. The paper gives an overview of the most significant combustion testing results. The paper illustrates the burner design arrangements adopted by Ansaldo Caldaie in relation to the potential installation on large size utility boilers of 320 MWe and 160 MWe class as well as the design criteria for the fuel feeding system to the burners.
