Construction SuperConference 2017

E13 Leverage the New ConsensusDocs and AIA Standard Contracts to Stay Ahead of the Curve (Room Chopin 3)

Design and construction contracts set the foundation for project success or failure. Case law, technology and insurance have all changed. Are you keeping up contractually or putting your company at greater risk? ConsensusDocs and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) have changed their general conditions documents and most used agreements. This update addresses industry issues impacting payment, insurance, terminations, indemnification, mediation and arbitration, and notice. This session will highlight the most significant changes and strategize how you can leverage in contract negotiations on specific provisions in the new 2016/17 editions.

Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:

·         Understand how you can leverage updated contract language in ConsensusDocs and AIA standard documents in your contract negotiations, including manuscripted documents.

·         Understand a general contractor's perspective on recent changes to the American Institute of Architects (AIA) A201 revisions.

·         Understand how changes in construction practices, case law, and the insurance market need to be reflected in your contracts.
