Incidental avian contacts or “takes” can result in outages, fines, and bad negative public relations. In this presentation we will review a few incidences that resulted in very large fines and remediation. This provides an insight to the costs of outages that result from avian outages and the negative effect of not doing something before the issue occurs. We will then review the positive result of prevention from the perception of the community when the proper promotion is used. Finally, we will review the proper preparation and use of some protective products and how these can reduce occurrences, protect wildlife and equipment, increase reliability, and reduce liability.
