Improving Yield and Profitability of the Wheat Soybean Double Crop (Room Grand Ballroom A/B)

The wheat soybean double crop is a popular rotation from Kansas to Maryland. The benefit is three crops are harvested over two years, improving profitability while expanding crop diversity. The combination of planting earlier wheat varieties, harvesting sooner at higher moisture followed by no-tilling soybeans immediately can move up the planting soybeans 7 to 14 days, improve quality of wheat grain and increase soybean yield. This presentation will look at challenges in the double crop rotation, opportunities for improvements, benefits to the environment and efforts being made by states to improve the viability of the double crop rotation.
