David Dzanis, DVM, Ph.D., DACVN, CEO of Regulatory Discretion Inc., provides information on contemplated changes to the AAFCO Model Pet Food Regulations and discusses the potential impact of these changes on the labeling of all pet foods distributed in the U.S. Significant changes in the way nutrient content information is presented, new "front-of-pack" nutritional adequacy graphics, mandatory safe handling verbiage and changes to the ingredient declaration are being considered. While nothing is final to date, it behooves the pet food industry to keep abreast of these developments.
