13.6 An Epoxy-Siloxane Hybrid Resin for Industrial Coatings (Room 243-245)

Protective coatings formulated with a new epoxy polysiloxane hybrid resin demonstrate properties not easily matched by traditional coatings technologies. Beyond providing lower viscosity and easier handling, the new hybrid resin can be formulated into lower VOC, polysiloxane coatings with higher chemical resistance (even at low curing agent dosages), excellent gloss and color retention after accelerated UV testing, and even superior cleanability for some specialty coatings markets. Thermal testing indicates that the new hybrid resin has potential application for temperature-resistant coatings. The performance of this new epoxy polysiloxane hybrid resin will be demonstrated with starting point formulations for a high gloss white enamel, two different clear coats, and other formulations intended for specialty applications.
