Tracks: Permitting and Environmental Considerations, Poster Presentation

Prior to and because of the federal threatened listing of the lesser prairie-chicken (LPC; Tympanuchus pallidicinctus) in April 2014, the scientific community undertook an increase in field-based research and meta-analysis of impacts of energy development, including vertical structures from wind energy and associated transmission, LPC and related prairie grouse. Energy development, including wind energy, was included as part of the five-factor analysis in the final listing rule in 2014. However, on July 20, 2016, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service fulfilled a court ruling that vacated the federal listing and placing the species under the regulatory authority of states within the species’ five state range. We present a synthesis of the publicly available research for LPC since the final listing rule and application of the research by states in consultation within the context of the current federal species status review.
