Our title 1 school established a K-5 STEM lab. I developed the curriculum, taught the lessons, and create a lab that fosters curiosity and success. Every class visits the STEM lab for 40 minutes every week. This lab focuses on standard based science lessons while using elements of STEM education to enhance the lessons. The STEM lab has really sparked a love of STEM in a way that is empowering and humbling. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to establish such a lab. Our students weren't really sure what STEM really was until the lab was created. It's amazing what a ripple effect one little lab can have on a school. Our STEM lab was enhanced by NASA sponsored presentations, 5th grade field trip to the University of South Florida's Engineering Expo, SRES STEM day, etc. This one little lab has sparked a love of STEM Education.
