Next Generation Flexible eWriters - Transition from Research of New Technologies to Roll-to-Roll Manufacturing
Tuesday, February 13, 2018
3:35 PM - 4:00 PM

The flexible, roll‐to‐roll eWriter technology, based on cholesteric liquid crystals, has inherent reflective color, bistablity, and requires no power to maintain a static image. By applying localized pressure to the flexible, roll‐to‐roll manufactured eWriter display with either a stylus or fingertip a bright line is written on the dark background of the display. Flexible eWriters are entering a new paradigm in this category via technological innovations such as exact erase, semitransparency, large area, and multiple color. These innovations are enabled by continuous, roll-to‐roll, flexible display manufacturing and are catapulting eWriters to new and expanding consumer electronics segments. The development of these exciting technologies as well as transitioning from research to mass production will be discussed and presented. In addition, aspects of mass production, roll‐to‐roll processing, and scale up will be discussed.
