Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are the topic of much research and are actively being regarded as having the potential to revolutionize many industries requiring unique opto-electronic and mechanical performance enhancements. For transparent films (TCF), much effort has been devoted to achieving highly conductive films with high light transparency. A brief update on Chasm’s hybrid TCF film “AgeNT™” will be presented. Over the past several years, numerous publications describing the use of CNTs beyond TCFs have been appeared with great promise in applications requiring modified properties having a range of sheet resistance, optical transparency, and chemical functionalization. These characteristics are being utilized in a wide range of sensor applications requiring sensing of chemical and mechanical properties for “installed” or wearable devices. The process of choice has been focused on printing such devices in an effort to deliver a low cost, flexible manufacturing path. In some cases, such products are being commercialized, but success has been limited by using a sub-optimized development process. To be presented is a view of the importance of, and methodologies for matching product requirements, materials selection and processing to create inks, and printing/fluid application methods to achieve the desired product functionality.
