Stretch Testing of Flexible Electronics

As the flexible hybrid electronics industry continues to grow, the need for standardized testing methods for characterizing new materials is apparent. Standardized testing methods give designers, manufacturers, and integrators reliable material data that is consistent regardless of the source. In this presentation, we report the results from two different test tools under monotonic and fatigue conditions. Both strain-rate and stress-relaxation effects are studied. Limits of stretchable conductors are also examined. We will discuss sample design, fixturing, testing parameters, and data analysis and interpretation. The developed test methods and procedures are amenable to easy adaptation. We also present material property data from two different silver inks on polyimide, PET, and TPU substrates.
