PII: What Schools Can Do to Protect Student Data Privacy (Room South 331A)

24 Jan 18
10:30 AM - 12:30 PM

Tracks: Future of EdTech Information Technology

Whether you're just getting started with your student data privacy program or are looking for guidance on how to improve your practices, this BYOD workshop will guide you through some fundamental requirements and processes for managing personally identifiable information and help you begin to bridge the trust gap with parents and other community stakeholders. You'll come away with an understanding of key legislation, areas to focus on when developing or improving your compliance program, and how to communicate your privacy work within the community to reassure parents about how you are protecting the privacy of student data. You'll also hear from recipients of CoSN's Trusted Learning Environment Seal about how the program helped them reframe the privacy conversation within their communities to one of trust and transparency, and gain guidance on how you can do the same.
