As 5G networks become the backbone of industrial and embedded IoT systems, they also introduce a vastly expanded attack surface and new vectors for cyber threats. While 5G promises ultra-low latency and massive device connectivity, its complex architecture—including edge computing, virtualized network functions, and software-defined components—requires a fundamentally different approach to cybersecurity.

This session will explore how embedded system developers can proactively address the evolving cybersecurity landscape of 5G-enabled IoT deployments. We’ll examine the unique risks introduced by 5G—including distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, compromised edge devices, and vulnerabilities in network slicing—and provide practical guidance for securing devices, data, and communications from the chip to the cloud.

Drawing on real-world applications and standards such as NIST and ETSI, attendees will gain a clear understanding of how to integrate security by design into embedded architectures, how to choose secure modules and connectivity platforms, and how to stay ahead of compliance requirements in an increasingly regulated environment.
