Special education leaders play a critical role in shaping and influencing policies that impact students with disabilities. This session prepares aspiring administrators to serve as policy advocates—identifying systemic barriers and advancing changes that promote access, fairness, and high expectations. Participants will explore how to interpret, implement, and influence policy at the school, district, state, and national levels. Emphasis will be placed on using data, stakeholder voice, and collaborative leadership to address disparities in identification, service delivery, and programming. By grounding advocacy in democratic values and inclusive practices, leaders will leave equipped to champion sustainable policy solutions that ensure every student is seen, supported, and valued.
