This mini-course guides special education administrators through the legal and instructional foundations of Specially Designed Instruction (SDI). Participants will learn how to apply the Two-Step Test to ensure SDI is appropriately linked to present levels of performance, annual goals, and services in the IEP. The session explores legal risks when SDI is not implemented with fidelity and provides tools for defensible decision-making. Moving beyond compliance, the course emphasizes how to integrate SDI into broader systems like MTSS, universal screening, and PLCs. Through case studies, and leadership discussions, attendees will develop strategies to embed SDI into school-wide practices and communicate its value across roles. By the end, participants will have a clear, actionable framework for leading SDI implementation that meets both legal and instructional demands.
