Innovating for Success: Cutting Edge Practices
In this session, we will describe a student-centered comprehensive framework called ELEVATE, which stands for Empowering Learners for Effective Transitions and Academic Excellence. This framework includes several critical components to enhance academic success for all learners, especially those facing achievement challenges or disabilities. ELEVATE places students at the core of their educational experiences, encouraging them to examine their strengths and goals as individuals, learners, and future professionals. Their identified goals drive their commitment to learning opportunities, reinforcing that school experiences can help them achieve their envisioned futures. This way, students see school as a pathway to fulfill their aspirations rather than something teachers and school systems mandated. The model is based on Goal and Hope theory, which posits that people are motivated when they have a desired goal, believe they can accomplish it, and possess a detailed action plan to reach it (e.g., Markus & Nurius, 1984; McCombs & Miller, 2006; Snyder, 1994). The ELEVATE framework shows how integrating artificial intelligence (AI) can enhance student performance by linking academic motivation, core class achievement, reading comprehension, and successful transitions. We share how AI-driven tools like Magic Box and the KEA Bot support content learning and reading comprehension. These tools personalize learning experiences, provide targeted interventions, and deliver real-time feedback, ultimately improving student outcomes in core subjects. For instance, Magic Box enables customizable assessments, including quizzes and interactive question types like drag-and-drop and fill-in-the-blank. Additionally, Magic Box allows for customizing reading materials by presenting core texts rewritten at multiple Lexile levels to align with students’ instructional comprehension. We will present evidence-based strategies that align vocabulary and comprehension skills with academic content.
