Tackling Challenging Behavior: Coaching the Coaches (Room 209 B second floor)

Special Education administrators are instructional leaders charged with ensuring that students receive positive behavioral interventions and supports. However, even when positive behavioral interventions and supports are provided with fidelity, challenging student behavior does occur. These behavioral incidents are more likely to occur in less structured settings (e.g., bus, cafeteria, hallways, gym). This session extends PBIS beyond the classroom to include evidence-based coaching strategies that support educators in the classroom and beyond in meeting the needs of students exhibiting challenging behavior. The session will include a brief overview of the research base and provide implementation and coaching suggestions. Evidence-based professional development activities, resources, and materials will be provided.
