Innovating for Success: Cutting Edge Practices
The adage goes, "Give a man a fish, and he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime." When it comes to supporting students’ social, emotional, and behavioral (SEB) needs, the same principle applies. Rather than relying on a small group of experts to provide interventions, we have focused on equipping all staff with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to create supportive environments and respond effectively to student needs. In this session, we will share Clinton County RESA’s journey in developing a comprehensive and sustainable capacity-building initiative. Through a cohesive partnership between our Special Education and General Education departments, we have intentionally engaged educators in all roles - from Superintendents to Transportation staff. Our initiative provided a robust array of professional learning opportunities from district-specific requests for training, to offerings open to all (both daytime and evening), to our most intensive effort, our Behavior Teams Intensive Training series. In this session, we will discuss key strategies, professional learning structures, and systems-level shifts that have empowered educators to integrate SEB best practices into their daily work. Special Education Administrators will leave this session empowered with tools, resources, and actionable steps to implement or enhance similar initiatives in their own settings.
